MARKET Space
The aim of this project was to Design an area for the market near the Newcastle University grounds. The most important part was the canopy. Following the idea of ‘Thinking through Making’ we were tasked with creating a series of experimental physical models that will show our design evolution and progress.
The photo of the final design showing the Market space as well as the canopy for it.
The initial models were made in order to establish the potential locations of the stalls and the design of the Market itself.
The Final Design was created in such a way as to ensure an efficient protection from the Newcastle winds, rain with possibility of snow. The pitched structure ensures that water and snow collection is relatively easy and does not require any extra-equipment or labor apart from the drainage system. The timber materiality creates a warm welcoming atmosphere, encouraging visitors and passers by to stop at the Market
Series of Experimentation Models for the Canopy.
While designing the canopy, It was important also to explore the qualities of the materials I am using. So the made model was tested under the light to explore the light qualities to get an understanding of the potential atmosphere.
