Connecting Plymouth

Connecting Plymouth is a large project that suggests a design for the large area in Plymouth. Being previously heavily industrialized, the given zone has separated itself from the city. The produced Masterplan suggests ways of reintegration of the area within the city - Connecting Plymouth.

During the site visit we have observed the lack of social interactions and economic connections throughout. Where the site is accessible, it is only for specific purposes and does not allow a connection to the surrounding residential and commercial areas, creating a walled off experience. Thus showing the disconnection between the site and its surroundings. The behavioral mapping depicts the observations that people did not come to the site for a long stay nor any social activities, but for monothematic shopping and as a convenient path to reach other parts of the city.

This storyboard on the left expresses our experience on the site. The site is now inaccessible and disjointed, but as the figure walks forward into the future the site becomes more open and engaged with the city and the rest of its dwellers.

The series of Diagrams on the left is showing the development of the Masterplan

Upon completion of the masterplan, the second stage of the project has been introduced. With a large focus on the intergenerational living, the project main focus became integrating people of various ages and skills withing one building complex - Social Housing.
